    Hi,

    Great work!!!

Any chance for 4965 driver, please?

Let me know if you need a tester.
  • mercurysquad · 4 months ago
Of course 4965 will have a driver, but after 3945. I will ask for 4965 testers when the work begins. "ni|" from Voodoo Labs who has written SDHCI driver, is going to be helping with it.

Can i ask what you had too learn too port driver too OSX? :) and 1 more thing thanks for everything :)
  • foo · 4 months ago
Had a question - will this driver load properly if the kext is located in an EFI partition (/Extra/Extensions/VoodooWireless.kext) as opposed to /System/Library/Extensions/VoodooWireless.kext?

Asking because I'm trying to keep my custom kexts completely separate from my vanilla install of Mac OS X. I've tried on other occasions to locate kexts here, and some of them load, and some of them don't (they give "can't determine dependencies for xyz.kext" errors). Don't know why that happens, but when I put them back in /System/Library/Extensions (and rebuild kext caches, etc) they work fine.

    Thanks for your hard work!
  • lastowl · 4 months ago
the ones which tend to have problems is the one which are over writing original kexts loaded this isnt it's completely new so it should work on a efi partition or even /extra/ folder also the bootloader effects which kexts will load ect
  • foo · 4 months ago
Yeah, it makes sense that the ones that don't work in this way are trying to override existing kexts (or parts of kexts) in /S/L/E.
However I could have sworn that a few brand new kexts sometimes didn't work, but it could have been my imagination.
I think not knowing how the OS loads kexts or how the bootloader works, it's just seemed like voodoo before (pardon the pun).

I think Chameleon (which I'm running) should have better support for overriding the same named kexts in /S/L/E, but that's a topic for another time and forum.
  • mercurysquad · 4 months ago
    Two points.

    1. There is no problem installing these drivers directly in /S/L/E. Since it's a 3rd party kext, no OS X update will mess with it. There is no need to install these (or any 3rd party kext which does not overwrite an Apple-supplied driver) in the EFI partition.

    2. Chameleon already supports override kexts 100%. The reason some of them fail to load is OS X itself -- most of these kexts depend on other kexts, for example the IOFramework kexts depend on IOPCIFamily, ACPIPlatform and IOGraphics kexts. So you must put all dependencies in /Extra. Even then it's a bit of a gamble as these kexts are loaded too early and might not have some other resources ready yet.

That said, I have not tested loading project:camphor drivers from EFI partition, nor will it be supported because such is not required for its working.

    Hey dude..
Thanks for your work and sorry for my bad english.
    i have 1 question.
i've a 2200bg wifi card, and work with your v5 kext, but after some time the airport turn-off (always).
I turn on it and after some time ( 4-5 minuts) it automaticly turn-off?
    What can i do?
  • Jimmy · 4 months ago
Hi mercurysquad, you know when will be ready the 2200bg driver with wpa encryption? really thanks for your work, you are very appreciated :) Thanks :)
  • lastowl · 4 months ago
look at what he said 'Port over the existing 2200BG driver to VoodooWireless and make sure no bugs remain in it. Now I know people will be up in arms about this, but there is no other way to test that the VoodooWireless code actually works. This might take a day or two.' and it may be done then or later with the 3945 as it should be a generic thing with them all

Tanks for your job, and i'm waiting a solution for my intel 4965 AGN.

I could be a tester if you want !

Mac OS X 10.5.8 was just released, and one of the changes is: "Improves compatibility and reliability for joining AirPort networks."... Just wanted to make sure you were aware of this (any API changes, etc) so your drivers will still work in 10.5.8.
  • mercurysquad · 4 months ago
Thanks for the heads-up. I'm updating to 10.5.8 right now. Hopefully it has only bugfixes and no API changes.
  • mercurysquad · 4 months ago
UPDATE: Ok I'm on 10.5.8 now and am typing this while connected through existing project:camphor beta driver v05. So obviously everything's peachy.

Any chance for 3945 driver, please?

    I'm waiting for that.

    BTW,

Can you tell me, what time can you finnish the 3945 driver?

    Thx!
  • magare · 4 months ago
Hey guys, let's not put pressure on the developer. Comments like the two above are really annoying !!!
Remember that this is voluntarily work !!!
Just wait patiently. He is working hard enough.

And be thankful as we don't have lots of options here.

What is the estimated time of completion for the 3945 driver. And is there anything i may do to help things along?

PS Keep up the great work!!!
  • Sebinouse · 4 months ago
Actually, we don't need an "estimated time of completion", the driver will be realeased when it will be ready. What we need is update to see the project evolutions ...
I just can't wait to see an update showing the progress for 3945 development...
  • drmikecrawford · 4 months ago
Send some info and i will see what i can do.

I discovered this project while trying to understand how to get my 2200BG working in my Presario M2108US. I am running OS X 10.4.6 though, and I see nothing on these pages about what version of OS X are supported. I am also at a loss about how to install the drivers.

Will this work on 10.4.6? If so, how can I install them? Consider me a noob.

I have considered trying to run Jaguar, but the information on the OSX86 site, including the forums, is scattered and incomplete so I really don't even know if I should try it. Everything except my wireless card works and I am currently using a USB D-Link WiFi adapter. I really want the internal.

I would be willing to contribute, but as it stands there is very little information here I can use. Lots of info on the development but almost no practical info for somebody to use. And I have read many pages. I don't even know if I can try the drivers, or how to try them. Hard to contribute under such circumstances.

    Any info would help.

I don't know if this driver works on Tiger. But to install it download KextHelper. Open it, select 2200.kext, type in your passwort and klick install.
  • chopdoc · 4 months ago
Thanks so much. I would like to try it, and I do have KextHelper. Perhaps I'll just give it a go. The thing is I read something about firmware being involved. Don't I have to do something regarding this firmware in addition to just installing the kext? I just figured there must be more to it than just the kext because of the firmware. Again, consider me a noob.

It's amazing to me that people are willing to put so much into such things. If I don't get a definite response on the Tiger compatibility issue I'll probably just give it a go and post the results.

    Thank you.
  • mercurysquad · 4 months ago
You will need at least Tiger 10.4.11 to use the kext. I have not tried it, but according to Apple some features that the kext uses are only available in Leopard, and were later ported back to Tiger in v10.4.11.

You don't have to worry about firmware, it is included within the driver. You just have to accept the Intel firmware license agreement before you download/use the driver.
